About Jet Engine
Whittle patented the turbojet in 1930 but the RAF showed no interest. Hans von Ohain independently developed one in Germany, flying first in 1939. Whittles first flight was in 1941. Jet travel shrank the world, replacing week-long sea voyages with hours of flight.
