About Lightning Rod

Franklin proposed a pointed iron rod connected to the ground to carry lightning safely past buildings. His famous kite experiment of 1752 helped show that lightning is electricity. He published instructions in Poor Richards Almanack and never patented the idea. In Britain, King George III later favored blunt rods over pointed ones, a dispute tangled up with politics during the American Revolution.
