About Spinning Jenny
Hargreaves, a Lancashire weaver, built a multi spindle spinning frame around 1764 that let one worker spin eight threads at once. Legend says it was named after his daughter, though jenny was probably slang for engine. Hand spinners broke into his home and destroyed machines, fearing for their livelihoods. It helped launch factory textile production in the Industrial Revolution.
