About Alphabet
The Phoenician alphabet had 22 consonant signs, no vowels. The Greeks added vowels around 800 BC. The Latin alphabet descended from Greek via Etruscan. About 100 alphabets exist today. The Phoenician system replaced cumbersome cuneiform and hieroglyphics.
