About Fiber Optics
Kao demonstrated that glass fibers could transmit light signals over long distances. He determined that impurities in glass caused signal loss. Won the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics. A single fiber can carry over 100 terabits per second. Over 99% of intercontinental data travels through undersea fiber optic cables.
